Irish people love Ice Cream

160,000 Cones and Swirly’s consumed since heatwave started

The warm weather is heating things up in the ice cream market and Supermac’s has announced that 160,000 Cones and Swirly’s have been consumed since the heatwave started and that it is on target to use over 600,000 litres of ice cream this year. Year on year figures show that the family chain is well ahead of last years figures when just short of 1/2million litres were used.

Supermac’s has a wide variety of ice cream products on its menu providing 9 ice cream products from the Hot Muffin and Ice Cream to the Swirly and the Cone.  The Supermac’s Hot Muffin and Ice Cream has been described as the ‘national dessert’ and according to Supermac’s MD, Pat McDonagh, there are two reasons. The 1st is the secret recipe that is used to make the ice cream and the other is the 100% Irish milk from Lakeland Dairies. “The secret is in the unique mix,” Supermac’s MD Pat McDonagh revealed. “The ratio of fresh cream to fresh milk is why our ice cream tastes as good as it does. We have worked hard at understanding what it is our customers want and when we find out we work hard at giving it to them. The mix that Lakeland Dairies provides is unique to our restaurants and it is made using the highest quality milk from grass fed cows that have the opportunity to graze for up to 300 days a year,” he said.

Supermac’s and Lakeland Dairies recently agreed that the farmer owned co-op will continue to supply the ice cream mix for the restaurant chain. The announcement is an extension of the existing relationship the two organisations have where Lakeland Dairies is the exclusive supplier of ice cream for Supermac’s. Lakeland Dairies is a farmer owned dairy processing co-operative based in Cavan. It employs over 600 people directly and sources milk from over 2,200 dairy farmers.
