Marie Keating Foundation Fundraiser - 'Journey for Mags'

Galway Man Embarks on Monumental Run & Cycle around Ireland

A mammoth task is being undertaken by a Galway man determined to raise funds for one of Ireland’s largest cancer awareness and information charities in memory of his mother. Sponsored by Supermac’s, ‘Journey for Mags’ will see Darren Duane, originally from Kiltullagh and now living in Loughrea, run and cycle the entire coast of Ireland in four weeks. The gruelling challenge, starting next month, is in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation and in particular their Comfort Fund. This special fund offers financial support to those suffering from cancer in need of financial help.Pat McDonagh Linda Keating
Darren’s test will set off from Supermac’s, Eyre Square on Wednesday, 1st of August with a 10km run, followed by two 40km cycles and ending the day with another 10km run. This will be the daily schedule to the nearest kilometre for the whole month, excluding rest days. Aside from being an extremely worthwhile fundraiser for the Marie Keating Foundation, ‘Journey for Mags’ is also a very personal challenge set by Darren in honour of his mother. Margaret, or Mags as she was affectionately known, lost her battle with Ovarian Cancer in 1997. It’s Darren’s hope that his epic journey will see him arrive back into Eyre Square on the 1st of September 2012 - 15 years to the day since he lost his beloved mother Mags.
Supermac’s are sponsoring Darren throughout his coastal journey around Ireland. Speaking at the launch of ‘Journey for Mags’ Pat McDonagh, Managing Director of Supermac’s, said “we are proud to sponsor Darren as he undertakes such a challenge. Unfortunately, most people have a story to tell about the illness and we recognise the importance of the work great people like Darren are doing in association with the Marie Keating Foundation. We’d like to wish Darren the best of luck on his journey and we hope the people of Ireland will come out to show their support for him and the charity as he makes his way along the Irish coastline.”
